Why have I been on many trips with Ian?  Because he first infects us with his passion for light and the magic it does to any scene.  Then he takes us to all the right places, at the right time and points out where the sun will be, and where the light will be sweetest.  He sprinkles this with some technical secrets (as little or as much as you want) that he uses to create his own masterpieces. He makes sure travelling together is fun and the accommodation is comfortable yet affordable.  He has a large faithful following so we mix with some great fellow travellers with the same itch to take beautiful images. Finally he is a generous, warm leader who makes everyone feel comfortable no matter what your proficiency is or how slow you learn. So eventually when you get home, you realize, “Wow!! These are some of the best images I have ever taken!”  What more would you want?  Well what else.Saving up for the next trip of course!

Dear Ian, We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for including us in your tour of Nepal. We have come away far more enriched and passionate about photography and the world around us. You were a very generous teacher to us, both throughout the trip and you were so kind and approachable. Scott and I find ourselves inspired by you. We are so glad to have met you, to have been taught by you and hope to keep in touch. With deepest thanks.

For anyone looking for a special and educational photo tour, I highly recommend Ian Rolfe and his colleague, Ewen Bell, as photographic guides. I was with them on a scenic tour of the Scottish Highlands for 16 days during the summer of 2015. These two are a dynamic duo. They have a gift for exploring picturesque, out-of-the-way places traveling photographers could not possibly find on their own. They have boundless energy that kept us constantly excited and on the move. Their helpful photography tips inspired all of us to hone our skills. The price of our tour included quality hotel accommodations and delectable, sumptuous breakfasts and dinners each day. Finally, both men genuinely care about their clients and go out of their way to meet individual as well as group needs. I can honestly state that the tour exceeded my expectations.

Hello Ian, A very big and belated thank you for that wonderful photographic journey discovering New Zealand’s Autumn colours. Amazing accommodation, great food and wonderful travelling companions. Thanks so much for all the photography tips and tuition, that went a long way to improving my overall skills and my using Light-room and Photoshop. Now looking forward to my next workshop with you on Flinders Island.

 My sincere thanks.   Shirley

Dear Ian, I would like to thank you in writing for a great 10 days with you on Norfolk Island. Even though I went as a non-photographer to accompany my brother, I learnt heaps and have come home with some very lovely photos. I now look at the clouds so differently! My brother Don and I had such a great time, he is still reminiscing over the workshop that he did with you too and does not stop talking about it. We found it such a privilege to spend this time together on such a wonderful tour.

Thank you again my regards,  Bev Ashdown

Hi Ian, We were blown away by the tour itself and particularly with how different each of the canyons and National Parks were, and continue to marvel at the creation of nature in all its grandeur. As with the 2 workshops we have done with you before, we enjoyed both the content of the trip and your inclusive approach. Travelling with other talented like-minded people who love photography on this trip who were also willing to share their knowledge, meant that it was an instructional tour as well as an enjoyable photographic experience. Then of course there was also the optional extra weight loss program to be enjoyed you certainly get us out and about.

Thank-you for the group photo too Ian.      Our best Regards Jenny & Roger

Hi Ian, members and guests of BVCC would like to thank you immensely for your presentation last night.  Your images are awe inspiring and I know a few members were even moved to tears during your first slide show on sun bursts - absolutely stunning.  We really appreciate the effort it took to put your presentation together and the time you so graciously gave to our camera club.  We will be putting a link to your web site on ours shortly, and hopefully this will generate even more interest in you and your workshops and tours. Again, thank you so much, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.  Kind regards from...

Di Wyatt, Berwick Viewfinders CC Secretary

"What a fantastic week I had with Ian and Ewan observing and learning from such great photographers. When you become so relaxed with these notable and reputable guys and they feel like your friends, it means that they are doing a superb job. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and energy is infectious and if you don't come away a better photographer after spending time with them you never will. I can still hear Ian's whooooooooechoing from the other side of a gully or hill when the light and views come together and can't help but smile. Ewan's grabbing me on a creek bed for a unique one on one session to share his special photography recipe will stay with me forever. These guys have a wealth of talent and their love of the craft and super organization of their workshops will leave you inspired to want more of what they have to offer. My bucket lists have just grown.....thank you so much for the experience and will be back for more!"  Thanks again Ian and we'll catch up soon I'm sure!

Kindest regards,

Bruce Langdon

Hi Ian,

I would like to thank you for organizing such a great trip to the Flinders Ranges last week. It was well up to the high standard of the other trips I was lucky to be on. You must have spent a lot of time organizing the top accommodation, which was really a surprise at Parachilna, absolutely miles from anywhere. The early morning starts gave us some superb photos including the flight over Wilpena Pound which was pure magic. The trips to the Sheep station and the Cattle station must have taken time to organize and would not be available to other tourists. The breakfast out in the Gorge and the super Dinner at the Wool Shed were fantastic. I am certainly going to have a great time processing my photos and the proudly showing them off to my friends. Without your expert help in composition, exposure etc. they would not be as good. I will also be telling my friends at the Photographic club to check your Website and go on your future tours.

Regards,

Geoff Snell.

Thank you Ian and Ewen and other participants of the workshop for a great time. What a feast of experiences, kind regards    Julie Bird

Ian, I would also like to thank yourself and Ewen for organising such a thoroughly enjoyable workshop. Stunning scenery, great food and good company. Who could ask for more? But wait!  A scenic dawn flight over Wilpena Pound with the door open and the chance to try some aerial photography, astro-photography under a clear outback sky, abundant wildlife, an ancient landscape covered in wildflowers, comfortable accommodation and welcoming hosts - all included? Wow! All of these things combined make an unforgettable experience. My regards   Michael Stoltenburg

Hi Ian, just a short note of thanks to both you and Ewan, having just done your photography master class in the Flinders Ranges again I found this workshop to be what I have come to expect from you the level of tuition given, the sites chosen for photography, the accommodation and food supplied were superb. Both you and Ewan should be proud of the outcome the time and effort you both must have put into this workshop to me showed your dedication in providing a quality product at a realistic price I have no hesitation in recommending your workshops to other novices and club members and I look forward to my future workshops with you

 Kindest regards,

Graeme Brown

Congratulations: Ian and Ewen, on a very successful workshop of the Flinders Ranges. I learned a lot from both of you and know I will be busy over the next few days recalling what I have learnt and trying to put it into practice. I have developed a repertoire of new approaches and reinforcement of some I knew but had almost forgotten.

The Photography – Locations - Both places were superb; I'll never forget flying over Wilpena Pound, wandering along that path that lead to the homestead, being astounded by the green and red colours of the southern ranges.

The northern ranges were just what I expected re white tree trunks, red gorges and distant mountains. BUT seeing them bathed in the dawn and dusk light was something altogether beyond what I imagined. At home I am reluctant to go wandering by myself at these times of day so to be shooting at these magical times (with lots of advice and encouragement) made it even more special, if that is possible.

The Accommodation: Wilpena Pound:  Good to have almost two bedrooms of a sort, worked very well for us and it was good that I could go out by myself given I couldn't keep up with the group and I just loved being situated right in the middle of the national park. The dawn flight was superb and I admit to not taking as many photos as I should have, but sometimes I love seeing things without a view-finder in front of me. Heresy to some but that's my choice and it was respected. Parachilna: What a treasure....LOVED everything about it; our hotel, our hosts, the food, the picnic breakfast at sunrise after chasing yellow footed rock wallabies, the gorges, the trees, EVERYTHING. I had the most wonderful time and I haven't stopped raving since I came home.

Thank you so very much for creating such a superb experience. How about East Arnhem Land next?!, now that would be something different.

Cheers,

Diane Bell

Ian, Once again you have amazed us with another of your unforgettable experiences.

I thought 21 days would be a very tiring tour but we came home wanting for more.

The trip had everything we could have wished for; great company, excellent accommodation, a super comfortable bus and very experienced driver, forever changing postcard perfect scenery and weather and, a very talented group leader.

Thanks for giving us this opportunity, let’s hope we can join you again soon on another whirlwind adventure.

Many of our FaceBook friends are very impressed and quite envious!  Kind regards,

Chris Renwick

Hi Ian, I have just finished looking at your book on Flinders Island and am amazed at the number of beautifull and intensely colourful landscapes abounding there. Now I can understand why you visit every year, and wish to thank you for sharing your experiences by creating the book.

I especially enjoyed seeing the drifts of belladonna lillies out in the wild. Once we saw statice by the sea and it was magical.

I can remember the night you came to a skills night with an initial publication of a coffee table book and everyone was invited to make suggestions on improving the layout. That was a while ago!

I was delighted to receive your book. Every good wish for the future.

Wendy Chapman

Hello Ian, Thanks for sending through the group photo of our great few days on King Island.

As my first photography trip, I really enjoyed everything about it, and it was very well run and organized. I learnt a lot about composition, low angles, leaning into the shot, S curves and C curves and thank you for your patience! The penguins were wonderful.  I even got a great shot of one of the snakes!
Your people you work with on the Island (Ian and Lucinda) are simply wonderful hosts, especially when we got caught out with the weather. Their food and catering was excellent. Would be great to go back one day and photograph in their cookery school and see their restaurant all set up and operating. I do hope I can go on another of your trips one day and in the meantime, may I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and safe travels for next year.
Many thanks indeed. Kind regards.   Diana

Well what can I say Ian, another wonderful trip!

The Canyons of Arizona & Utah were better than I imagined, each one different from the next. Zion, Bryce, Red Canyon, Antelope and of course the Grand Canyon, every spot was different from the last and beautiful or grand in its own way.

This is the 4th trip we’ve done with your company Southern Lightscapes and they have all been wonderful. Your attention to detail is fantastic, you get us to the perfect spots at just the right time of day and you even manage to swing the weather.

Accommodation is always excellent. The one on ones and the photographic workshops that are supplied make sure everyone gets the help they need to get great shots. Thanks for sharing some of your images with us and showing us how you work with your images in Photoshop. Our fellow photographers were a great bunch of people and the transport was perfect. We love the way you meet the Melbourne people at the airport and ensure we are all on board and then making sure we were checked in to come home when you were staying on in Las Vegas that was a nice touch.  We’ll definitely be booking another trip with you. Kindest regards.

Elaine

Hi Ian, Thanks for the group photo of the Flinders Island trip. I really enjoyed the Flinders Island workshop and appreciated the assistance you gave me with composition. We had a friendly group and you really know all the good spots on the island to photograph. The light was very good and I am very happy with the images I have produced.

The accommodation at Flinders Island Caravan and Cabins Park was very comfortable, clean and in a pleasant environment and I will be promoting it on Trip Advisor. Your arrangements for food both at the Hotel and cafe and especially the delicious meals provided by Ken and Carolyn were top notch.

Thanks again for your friendly, helpful and professional manner and pass my regards to Ann.

When funds allow I would love to do another workshop.  cheers

Ernie

These photographic images are made by one of the best thought out visionary landscape photographers from anywhere I've seen. Outstanding subject matter, perspective, composition and use of color and there is something else there, seen and felt that is magical.

G. Harlens  Big-Sky photography

Hi Ian I loved my time away with you. I am still basking in the after-glow. If I could afford it I would just keep doing all of your workshops. In my very first photography lesson I was told I must feed my passion and the flinders island workshop did exactly that. Thanks Ian for everything... I will see you again one dayCheers

Dear Ian, On behalf of the Yarra Ranges Photographic Society I would like to once again, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit our club. We appreciated so much, the presentation, for sharing your wealth of experience and knowledge and presenting your wonderful tutorial on the role of light in photography. Many of our members have been commenting on how informative they found your presentation. The general consensus is that your work was fabulously inspiring in the way your reinforced your tutorial, the way you make the landscape come alive and the magic of light. Many, including myself will now always look and consider, light as it aids our subject, along with form, colour and texture. We hope you will consider coming again in the near future. In the meantime, we wish you all the very best with your enlightening photographic adventures. Yours sincerely

Lisa Parnell (Vice President and Steward, Yarra Ranges Photographic Society)

Dear Ian, the recent workshop I attended of yours was definitely a highlight of my life. Thanks for your guidance, patience and support Ian, and to be part of such a great bunch of people too. Hope to attend another workshop of yours very soon in the future.

Dyana Griggs

Once again, thank-you so much for a fantastic workshop. I had a wonderful time and look forward to doing another workshop with you again and hopefully see some familiar faces again. Please add me to your mailing list for all future tours.

Lyn Gilbert

Hi Ian, Thank you very much for the photo. I enjoyed the weekend very much and actually learned a few new things about my camera.  The accommodation was excellent and, I agree, the star-trail was excellent.  I just need to get the programme to process mine. If I am asked about your workshops, I will have no hesitation recommending them, as I thought they were very well run and we certainly were able to cover a lot of ground...certainly no wasted time.  Once again, thank you very much and I hope to see you soon.

 Lorraine Holden

Dear Ian, A massive thank you for coming along to our club tonight and sharing your knowledge and experience with our members. It was just great to actually stand to the side during your presentation and see the audience enthralled by your Milford sound images. Thank-you again.

James Troi (President Williamstown Camera Club Inc)

Thanks Ian and Yes, a great photographic trip and learnt so much I will go through your website and book some more. I had the best experience and cannot wait to do more. It was a magnificent experience actually. As a bonus I loved all the history as well. Real history buff! I have many hours of Photo -shopping ahead and look forward to the results.  Thanks so much.

 Trevor Smithson

Hi Ian, Many thanks for the great four days on Flinders Island. I found the workshop very inspiring and a unique opportunity to see the island through your eyes. Thank you for guidance and the opportunity to be at so many of the Island’s best locations at the right time of the day.

I would appreciate if you could email me titles/authors of some landscape photography books you recommend.  Cheers

 Max

IanJust to say thanks for a great workshop in Iceland. It was certainly an experience I will never forget and not just because of my encounter with that wave! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into the planning of these workshops from the places we stay and the locations we visit to the people we meet. Thanks too for sharing your passion for all things photographic. I appreciate all the help and advice given. I am sure I have a set of images that I will be proud of and enjoy sharing with family and friends. I hope you enjoy your time with family in the UK and I look forward to travelling with you again next year. Kind regards

Linda Herd

Thank you Ian,  That was an amazing week-end. The photo opportunities were great. I realize my limitations at rock-hopping so didn’t get to quite the same places as the others however what I did get to was great. The tips from you Ian are certainly going to be more than useful. The big surprise however was the Food. That Crayfish on the first night was amazing, then the Beef you prepared while we were in the Petrified Forest was sensational followed by all that cheese. I don’t think I have ever attacked a cheese platter with such greed but as Lucinda pointed out if we/I didn’t eat it then it would be thrown out. Couldn’t have that could we! I had just under 1,000 photos which is a lot to sort. Watching the others I think they were taking more than me so they have a lot of work ahead. I have posted some on the link below but really looking forward to seeing the group shots of yours and the shots of the OKA going through the rivulets. Hope your camera is as water resistant as a Canon Ian many thanks.

Rodney Caruthers

Dear Ian, WOW, what a fantastic time, a full-on workshop capturing so many images on this wonderful island.  For such a small island there is so much to see and do. I learned a lot about the light – now understand this so much more than before my trip, I also have a better understanding of stacked perspective.  It was great to have photo-shop lessons at the school with Taina – an added bonus that I wasn’t expecting. I totally appreciate your help with composition and feel that I have improved in this area also. The group was a lot of fun and I am now looking forward to going to King Island in 2015.  Let me know if you plan to do a photoshop workshop in the near future, Thanks for such an amazing trip.

Vanessa Santvoort

Hi Ian, Thank you for the wonderful trip and your tiresome work. The entire weekend was well organized and full of activity from start to finish. I really enjoyed my time and meeting all the great people. Lucinda & Ian worked hard for all of us, ensuring we were well looked after, providing me with shoes, tripod for Ellen just those small touches showed they cared. Thanks for your time and effort and see you the next one!

Mary Logar

Thanks Ian, heaps for  organising and leading the club trip to Port Fairy. I really enjoyed the photo spots and things generally. Please pass on my thanks to Greg, your able assistant as well.  Thanks again.

Dear Ian, Thank you so much for a fabulous photographic tour of the South Island of New Zealand. I absolutely loved the places we visited, many which we would have missed if we had been on our own, and the many hints and tips from you, on improving skills in taking interesting landscape images as well as learning new ways to process them.  The accommodation was outstanding throughout our trip, food was plentiful and the company was great. Our bus driver, John, was wonderful too and the best surprise was the perfect weather. We were travelling through times of rain and floods throughout the island, but somehow we managed to avoid this, arriving and leaving each destination before the big deluge. How lucky were we? I know that my daughter Debbie enjoyed it very much and has come back with new skills and a deeper appreciation of photography. I have been recommending your tours to photography friends and will keep doing that, as I feel that you give everyone a totally awesome photographic experience. Thank you very much for your consideration and help throughout the tour.   Best wishes,

Ruth

Hi Ian,  Just a word of thanks for the wonderful photography trip to New Zealand.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I had never done anything like it before.  I now have a greater knowledge of my camera having used it for 11 days rather than taking it out for an airing twice a month at the club.  I was also shooting in RAW as well as JPEG (hadn't done that before) and was also bracketing (3 different exposures as I found the bright sunlight and shade challenging). I got just over 50 photo's that I really liked (and so did my friends). Cheers and thank you again!

Marg McDonald

Hi Ian,  Thank you for a fantastic trip once again.
New Zealand 2014 was our 3rd trip with you and we have booked the 4th USA in October 2014. The scenery was amazing and accommodation just perfect especially in Queenstown were we all had a room with a view for the 3 nights and wow what a view. Your expertise is invaluable, ie: getting us to the best spots at exactly the right time for the best landscape shots, you never ceases to amaze us. Perfect light, a dusting of snow, no wind and we stayed ahead of the weather for the whole trip. You always manage to luck it in with the weather, you must have contacts. Your photoshop sessions are invaluable and your tuition during the trip is just right – if people are in need of assistance you are always there for them. Thanks for giving us tips on composition etc – our workmates have viewed some of our images and they say they look like postcards, they were very impressed with them. So were we. It was so nice to be once again surrounded by a great bunch of photographers & an excellent tour leader who made sure we were all looked after in the best possible way.  Photographing the Southern Lights (Arora Australis) was a highlight.Thank you so much!

 Craig & Elaine

Dear Ian, For our first photography outing of any description, the travel-centre you use and yourself definitely, organized a breath-taking week, every minute of the day. The knowledge shared and the optimum times to be at each location were invaluable. The accommodation was great to be so central and Janette was outstanding with  her hospitality. The company was amazing making some new lifetime buddies. We have been snapping new scenes at home and giving projects at school ideas of leading lines and curves etc. Well done and keep up your amazing gift of photography that you can share with others.

Merilyn Stephan

Hi Ian, Thanks for such a fabulous New Zealand trip. I loved the full on photography days, on the go early, out late at night shooting the stars. This is what I wanted, a photographic trip and it certainly was. I really enjoyed learning about stair trails and how to photograph them. And later the workshop tutorial on how to process the star trails in Star Stax. My friends are impressed with my star trail images and the Aurora Lights at Lake Te Anau were an added bonus. Your dedication to the entire trip photography advice, tips on composition, and knowledge of the area to give us the best images possible is to be commended. The entire trip was well organized, the accommodation and resorts, food choices, our bus driver John, stopping at a moments notice when you saw interesting light , the beauty of autumn colours captured on the trees, snow capped mountains, and lakes. I was a little apprehensive travelling on my own, but I had met so many lovely people and am now keeping in touch with my new friends. New Zealand, South Island, was an excellent trip and worth doing again , perhaps another season in the future......?   Till next time,

Mary Logar

Thanks Ian The photos are great - printed already and very useful for helping my geriatric memory re names. The list of email addresses will prove useful - some of us have been talking re meeting again. I found the trip to be wonderful. A combination of terrific tour leader, a funny, obliging and knowledgable driver and a fantastically beautiful countryside not yet overrun with people went a long way toward ensuring the basis of a great holiday.  But that wasn't all. Your patience, knowledge both of photography and sites of interest, your people skills and willingness to share knowledge and your infectious enthusiasm produced an atmosphere of cooperation, friendship and enjoyment that I have found to be rare on tours. The common interest in photography helped bring people together so that those travelling alone were not isolated - a major advantage.  I doubt that I'll ever do another plain vanilla tour. Photography tours will be high on my agenda. I'll look at your website for details of future tours, including Bhutan, so don't worry about sending an email re Bhutan.  Price might be the stumbling block re attendance for me. But what the heck - I'll be a long time dead. Once again, many thanks Ian

 Jenny Maddocks

Hi Ian, Thanks for sending the group's photos. It was the amazing and memorable tour and the workshop. I had the best time and enjoyed every second of it. It was also great to meet such a wonderful group of people with the same passion and interest. I am sure that we all got some great images.

Snezana

Hi Ian,  Thanks for the group photo, it brings back such good  memories of our time  together in New Zealand.  I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and couldn’t have seen all these places if I were doing this on my own.  Skipper’s Canyon was my  highlight of the trip, followed closely by Glenorchy.  I also like the rainforest photo shoot. The trip was wonderful, logistics was flawless and your itinerary was well thought out and well executed.  I learned a lot from you, just by observing what you did and how you did the post processing.  Greg your assistant was also most helpful and patient, definitely a valuable member on this tour.Everyone on the tour was super nice as well. The hotels were  mostly very good, with the except of the one in Oamaru where it was a fair walk from the lobby to our rooms and the elevator was very small. I’ll definitely be checking your website periodically to see what tours you are planning for 2015 and 2016.  Hope to see you again in the near future. Thanks for being such a wonderful tour leader.

Orchid Feng

Hi Ian, Thank you for yet another great trip filled with wonderful photography. As you know this is our tenth trip away with you, so I guess we should be accustomed to the amazing photographic opportunities that you lead us to on each occasion - this one was no exception. To be able to sit back and enjoy the experience without having to worry about bookings and travel arrangements just make these journeys with you such good value. We definitely look forward to coming along on many more in the future. Kind regards,

Val & Greg Earl

Hi Ian, A sincere thank-you for a wonderful tour and workshop. The photographic journey you took us on was amazing in both physically, technically and emotionally! I was a pleasure and delightful to be part of a diversified group and forge new friendships. Please convey my sincere thanks to your delightful wife Ann. Thank you so much for everything.

Jane Barnes

Hi Ian, thanks again for a most wonderful tour and workshop. I felt I was always asking questions, but I congratulate you on your patience with me as I seemed to be the least advanced one in the group, photographically speaking. I really enjoyed everyone’s company on the workshop too. When I finish working on a couple of my photographs I will sent them to you, to show you how much I learned that week!

Veronica Curtis

Hi Ian, thanks for the wonderful photograph you sent me recently of our workshop and tour. I get an excited tingle when I think about the great images taken, comradeship, adventure and knowledge gained when I look at all those smiling faces in the images and knowing you were responsible for that. Thank you so much. I look forward to the next one with you.

Richard Bartrop

Hi Ian, just wanted to say again in writing what a wonderful trip it was and so fantastic to be able to have enough time at all those wonderful places you took us to. Thanks to you and all your guidance.

Judy Dunn

Ian, I had a great time with some wonderful spots you took us to on the Island, enjoying nature and capturing moments. Ian's passion for light and landscape photography is infectious and he motivated us to use different techniques to explore and create great images. In addition Ian was very knowledgeable in the island's flora, fauna and history. He was also very giving of his time in showing post-production Photoshop and Add-Ons tips and tricks.  Thoroughly enjoyable.  Absolutely recommended.

Tony Harding

Hi Ian, thanks for the great photo of us all. Certainly was a trip to remember! It will take months to process all the wonderful photo’s we took.

Charles Kosina

IanJust a few words to say what a magnificent time I had on your workshop to King Island last week.  With nineteen of us from the Rosanna Photographic Club, and two from Benalla, it was a well organized, well run and thought-out tour.  Who would have thought that the two 4 WD giant size OKA vehicles could have taken us over and through magnificent locations driving along the beaches to the many rocks and their views along the magnificent coastline.  Morning tea in china cups on the beach, lamb roast for lunch with a glass of wine and tablecloths, made for many a conversation about what we had all just experienced with your knowledge and help in taking photos. Still can’t believe the lunches prepared for us by Ian and Lucinda  from King Island Tours and Travel. We also got to go to some places other “tourists” never are able to see. At the end of the day back at the lodge you had us in awe with your knowledge and expertise in photo-shop using images taken by the group on the day.  Then across to the hotel for dinner where everyone kept talking about the day and shots taken. The accommodation in the lodge at Grassy was comfortable and the continental breakfasts each morning filled us up before taking off for more adventure and photographic opportunity.  Many, many thanks for a well organized trip. In a word, superb.

 Ray Bradford.  Rosanna Photographic Club

Dear Ian, thanks for everything this week and for being such an awesome tour leader altogether. My best regards

Some comments by participants in the recent Creative Photography course

Hi Ian, My sincere thanks for an absolutely wonderful time in King Island. What a photographic paradise it was, and your patience and generosity in helping the group from RPC further develop their photographic skills, was amazing.  Thank you so much for arranging this tour specifically for us, an opportunity and experience never to be forgotten.  Every detail was considered, and even when plans were challenged, there was always an alternative. Thank you for the opportunity to use your wide angle lens, and it has now reinforced in my mind as to what I need for landscape photography.Having been to the Island 20 years ago & returning there last week, it was abundantly clear the enormous value of booking a tour with people who know the island.  20 years ago, we did 'our our own thing' & hired a car. I now realize how much I didn't see. Ian and Lucinda were amazing hosts, and provided many adventures, lunches in the bush beyond belief, and were generous in every aspect. They are an incredible team.I would love to return to King Island again with one of your workshops and see it in Spring.. I hope you are having a well earned rest after all your travel in the last few weeks.  My Best wishes

Jane Barnes

Hello Ian, the trip was so good I will write an article and put it in the next club newsletter. Anyone can see how hard you worked and the amount of time that has been put into the organization behind the tour. It ran all so smoothly. Your wife Ann is the nicest lady and has a big kind heart. Thank you for a great tour and I am already booked on another one of yours. Can’t wait! Just loved it all. Thanks again!

Patricia Barden

G'day Ian.Thanks for a top trip. Right up to your usual high standard - amazing locations, useful mentoring, well organized logistics and great company.

Murray and Judy

Hi Ian, Just a short note to thank you for your help and guidance over last weekend. Both Joan and I enjoyed it way beyond any expectation we had. I can see why you are so passionate about the Island and the people.

 Robert & Joan Page

Hi Ian,  Thanks for a wonderful week on Norfolk Island with your Photographic Tour.  It fully met my expectations with plentiful stunning photographic opportunities and lots of information to improve my photography along with training in Photoshop to highlight and enhance my images.  The tour blended serious photography with lots of fun shared with the other participants and you are to be congratulated on your consideration for our individual needs and your determination to expand our photographic skills whilst ensuring we all had a good time. We hope that we might be able to join another of your tours in the future.  Best Wishes and warmest regards,

 Evelyn & Ian Ware

Hi Ian, thank you so much for organizing and taking us on such a brilliant tour. It was superb from the beginning to end. Your photo’s too are outstanding. Best regards

 Ruth & Miron Goldwasser

Hi Ian, just a short email to thank you for a wonderful workshop. Your generosity in sharing information, plus the real help and encouragement, all of which have helped me enormously. I have been on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with me sister of late and have not picked up a camera for some time. Consequently it took a bit longer for me to get going. The weekend has just whet the appetite for more workshops with you. Once again, a brilliant learning experience and it was such a joy to see the beautiful King Island. Easy to see why you return again and again. Thanks again Ian it was superb!

Sue Brathwaite

Hi Ian  I apologise for the delay in writing to thank you for the BEST weekend....the best I've had in years.  The whole package was excellent - and now trying to plough through all those images I took. I just wish I knew Photoshop better to be able to dodge and burn, sponge, layers etc.   Maybe one day I'll master it. Anyway...thank you so much for a fabulous three days.   I'm hoping to come to Flinders Island with you on my next trip.

Kaye Harding

Hi Ian, first I would like to thank you and also Peter for a fantastic time. Your enthusiasm, generosity and organization are awesome! I had a great time and learnt so much! I look forward to more trips with you in the very near future. Please add my name to your special mailing list. My feedback to you Ian is.don’t change a thing!  Best regards.

Ken Bretherton

Great Trip Ian, hopefully I can now put what I have learnt into practise.

 Jocelyn Wood

Wow, what an amazing trip this was Ian, as we can all tell from your beautiful images what to expect, I was not disappointed. It was wonderful to experience the lovely breath-taking scenery of Flinders Island. I would like to thank you for helping me get out of auto-mode on my camera and how to us aperture/manual modes instead. Thank-you so much for a great relaxing and stress-free workshop.

 Samantha

Hello Ian..Just to express my appreciation with the three days spent on King  Island; I thought everything went very well, with good company and  superb catering.  I thought we all got on very well, although being from different backgrounds, and that is a wonderful experience.  I have a couple of images I am happy with. I think some areas have an effect on you as you discover them, but it does not always pass the test of resulting in an interesting image. Thanks again Ian.

Jean-Claude Rowland

Ian, what a wonderful trip! You have really opened my eyes to the Canyon country, and taught me lots.

Annette James

Dear Ian……….Roger and I would like to express our appreciation for a wonderful weekend.  We loved the beautiful locations you took us to, many of which we would never have been able to see on our own. Your photographic attention to each participant was outstanding, I learnt so much about my new wide-angle lens, and photo shop techniques, and your assistance and suggestions were very much appreciated. With regards to our hosts, what could one say except five star gourmet King Island food, and real country hospitality, Ian and Lucinda worked long hours to make our stay as memorable as possible.  We would (and have already) be very happy to promote your workshops and tours and hope to be repeat customers at some future date. Thank you once again. Our best Regards

 Jenny & Roger Vass

Hi Ian…….Thank you for the wonderful trip to FI and for making us so welcome at your home both before and after the trip. We have started work on some of the photos and are very pleased with the results. We felt thoroughly spoilt with the food and accommodation on the island and as for the weather - once again we were in luck. Hopefully we can make it to King Island with you on another workshop in the not too distant future.

Judy & Murray

Ian, after avoiding bus tours like the plague for years I must say Janine and I really enjoyed our time with you, Peter and all the other participants. The pace of the tour was not rushed and there was plenty of time to ask questions and assistance was always there if needed. We were very impressed with the itinerary, the accommodation was excellent, and multiple night stays in the best locations gave us all the time we needed. We would wholeheartedly recommend this type of tour to anyone taking great photo’s. We would certainly do this again!

Alan & Janine

Dear Ian, I was present at your “workshop” for the Eastern Suburbs Photographic society this week. I have only joined within the last year and found your presentation to be the most beneficial of anything else the club has organized. I would love to follow up on this and join your next workshop to Norfolk Island.

 Betty Luders

"I want to say a big Thank You to Ian for a stunning 21 days on tour in the USA. Firstly the organisation was amazing, with comfortable beds, good food, good company and an itinerary that covered some of the most amazing landscapes possible. We visited Zion, Red Canyon, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Canyon-lands, Arches National Park to name a few. Not only did we visit, but our trip was timed to have the best light possible at the right time of the day. We had plenty of unhurried time at each site, and enough flexibility to return to some places (after it snowed overnight). I'm not sure how you managed it Ian, but the bus driver was one cool dude, and your contact with the gods of weather meant amazing skies, brilliant warm days, rich red sunsets and even snow. Its quite an amazing experience to spend 3 weeks indulging in your favourite hobby, and no-one thinks you are mad if you want to photograph a road sign with a bear or a elk on it!"

 Jen Fawkes

Hello Ian, Thank you for organizing such a great three day Workshop. You took us to special spots which I could never have found left to my own devices. This was made possible in the wonderful Off road Oka vehicle that could literally go almost anywhere. You opened up a whole new world for me with your expertise and help, showing me how to get great images with my wide angle 14-24 lens, which up to now has spent most of its life in a cupboard! The accommodation was very comfortable and the meals were fantastic. I would recommend this workshop to all photographers whether very experienced or just beginners. It was a great experience!

Geoff Snell

Hello Ian, thank you for not only putting together but successfully running such a magnificent Photographic tour. We enjoyed every minute of it and we feel we were privileged to be part of a great group of people as without exception all were so friendly and willing to share their photographic expertise and knowledge of various software programmes. You certainly put together a first-class itinerary Ian, we appreciate that such a smooth and trouble-free tour doesn’t just happen, and we understand how much thought, research and effort you must put into these tours. Once again, thank you for organizing this fantastic Photographic Tour and you can be rest assured that we will be spreading the good word with our unreserved recommendation. We look forward to travelling with you again. Kindest regards.

 Suzanne De-Pelsonaire.

Hi Ian, We wish to convey our appreciation for the excellent job you did in organising the trip to the Colorado Plateau. This is now the fourth trip we have had away with you and they just get better and better. Your close ties with the weather gods was an added bonus that you didn't tell us about beforehand. When we were blessed with snow at Bryce Canyon on our second day there we thought it was a fluke, but a repeat performance at The Grand Canyon a few days later just proved you had the right contacts. To see those places both with and without snow cover was really something special to us. We look forward to joining you again next year and the year after for more great photography. Best Regards.

 Val & Greg Earl

Ian, thankyou so much for the photographic workshop, it far exceeded my expectations. I learnt an awful lot and got some beautiful images. The food was amazing too.

 Silvia Voight

Ian, thankyou for organizing such a wonderful trip, I never considered that I could get such amazing images in the rain and with overcast skies.

Alfred Zommers

Hi Ian, thank you for sharing with us your expertise and knowledge during the Photography last weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main challenge for me now is to apply what I learnt from a great Guru! From now on I will try and get it right first time in the camera, minimising the manipulations of my images. I hope to join your King Island workshop sometime in the near future. We all really Love your Light-scapes Book too and its now found a place on our coffee table at home, a must see and read for all our family guests.

Frank Domanstay

Hi Ian, I am writing to let you know how much I enjoyed your advanced master-class. I found you to be so inspirational and I learnt more in your class than any other classes I have attended. Although I am a novice I purchased your Light-scapes book and have had great pleasure showing it to my friends and family. I had not bought a decent camera until I completed your course, so now I have, it’s a Canon which I love. However I need to read up on it to use it to its best advantage. I only wish I had had it with me on past travels, to capture the beauty of the world the way you have. Thanks again Ian.

 Dinah Makary

Hi Ian, Thanks for such a great time and all the knowledge that was shared with us. I have been sharing my shots with family and friends so I am now truly inspired. Look forward to next event.

Steve

Wow! It finally clicked after all these years Ian. Now I just want to use depth-of-field everywhere just like you showed us.

 Elizabeth R

If it weren’t for you Ian, we would not be having so much fun.

Judy and Murray McEachern

Hi Ian, While you are still shooting  on beautiful King Island I am at home now reflecting on the Incredible trip and I just wanted to let you know that it was really amazing. You deserve a big hug and kiss. Apart from the great photography I really enjoyed the company, food, conversations and the quality room at the lodging. Thank you once again! See you soon.

 Anneke Hoekstra

Ian, some thoughts about our recent trip with you. Bearing in mind this was our first escorted photographic tour, we don't have any personal experiences to compare it with. However, having said that we really don't know how the trip could have been improved. You got us to the locations at the right time most of the time. The only time this didn't happen was out of your control - weather or bus trouble. And when this did happen we could still use "plan B" and get good photos. We could say that was all you did, but no - you and/or Peter were always close by to give us tips or help with our shots. This assistance was always cheerfully provided in a considerate way - no matter how "dumb" the request was and at times surely would have exasperated you. As we said what more could we ask? Thanks to you both - it really was a great time.

Sue De-Pelsonaire

What an amazing presentation from Ian Rolfe tonight! I've always enjoyed Landscape photography, but after tonight, I am keen to get out there and try a bunch of new things we were presented with. I really got such much out of the presentation tonight from Ian.

David Armstrong

Ian, this has been a fantastic trip for me, just what I needed to consolidate my learning.

 Helen Rapocholi

Dear Ian, thank-you for a wonderful experience!

Jenny and Daran Fawkes

Dear Ian, thankyou for a wonderful trip, lots to see, many great memories, and hopefully photo’s to match. This was the first time that we have been on an organized photographic tour.  We certainly would not have been able to cover the territory and the locations without your tremendous detailed local knowledge and organization.

Peter and Sue Calder.

Hi Ian, The Norfolk Island trip by the way, was spectacular and I would highly recommend it to anyone (and will). Not only did I learn a bit about photography but I also managed to make several new friends along the way. I also enjoyed the interaction with the members of the group that were unsure with camera settings offering advice along the way to help them out. Once again thank you for a very enjoyable photographic adventure and I will start saving for the next.  My best Regards,

Steve Sheddick

Hi Ian,  A big thank you for a wonderful weekend away, it was awesome and I had an amazing time.  I look forward to coming on another one with you sometime in the future.    Thanks again,

Julie Emmerson

Ian, this has been an awesome trip, thanks for your company.                                               Gary Dawson

Ian, thank-you for a really great trip, the best!

Peter and Margaret Walton

Ian,  I have been flat out since I returned to Melbourne last Sunday with you from King Island, so haven’t processed any images yet. I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed all aspects of the weekend. I knew that the photography locations and your gentle instruction would be first class. But, the hospitality, transport, catering etc: all exceeded my expectations. Even the weather! However, I guess you didn't arrange that. I also plan to contact you to arrange a private tutorial in the near future, however I need to refine the areas I would like to cover etc. Thanks again.

Paul Spence

Dear Ian. First of all I want to thanks you for one of the most exceptional presentations we have ever had at our club meetings. I have been inundated with email from so many members about your presentation, even from our most experienced photographers. They were all so really impressed. Your photography is amazing and it was a privilege to see it so beautifully presented. I also think there were two facets of your presentation tonight that were even more felt and that was your knowledge of light and composition and your passion for the craft. It was all totally inspiring. Again, thank you so much from all the members, the committee and myself, it was sensational. Kind regards

Robin Tully. Secretary Preston Photographic club.

Dear Ian, we have really enjoyed the tour and your company.

Janine Neander.

Thank you for coming to the Benalla Camera Club to present your Advanced Outdoor Photography seminar. All participants were thoroughly enthralled by your presentation. As you know there were some newcomers to the art as well as some old hands. The way you communicated in a confident, calm and easily understood manner, was appreciated by all. We also noted your first-rate efforts on the field trip - a very early, cold morning to “catch the light” The selfless way you postponed taking photos yourself to help our members was greatly appreciated. The general comment was that you reached out to everyone – the mark of a top tutor. That coupled with the beauty of your images has given us all a renewed enthusiasm. Everyone gained much from the seminar. Thank you once again.

Murray Mceachern President Benalla Camera Club

Dear Ian, On behalf of the members of the Knox Photography Society who attended your landscape workshop and field excursions at Mt. Buller last weekend, we would like to extend our appreciation. Your lectures were well constructed and well delivered and covered all the topics that both our experienced and less experienced members wanted information on. We also appreciate your willingness to help and advise members on an individual basis especially in the field.  We considered the weekend a great success.  Our thanks.

 Rob Sloane.  Hon Secretary

Hi Ian,  I imagine you have had a well earned rest for a couple of days since the workshop ended. I want to thank you for a fantastic weekend, with all your information  and help on camera’s and photography. It was greatly appreciated. King Island holiday resort and yourself certainly were the perfect hosts  and the great food was just a plus.  I haven’t stopped talking about it all since then!  Thank you again, and until next time we catch up, happy photographing, Love.                                                                                                                  Jenene Evans

Hello Ian, thoroughly enjoyed your workshop, Again!  and recommend them to keen photographers regardless of their ability and/or their equipment. The groups are small so plenty of individual attention is given. We are taken to the most picturesque and interesting areas, even the weather seems to be kind to us. The accommodation is always excellent. In short - a great workshop as always.

Monica O’Connor

Ian, Thank you for the absolutely beautiful prints. They are truly stunning! I am having them framed at the moment and will Let you know how they look on the wall. The framer was most impressed. The light and texture is incredible - like an oil painting and the real landscape itself. Quite a feat! My son is a photographer and I can't wait to show him your prints.

Ann and John Bengor

Dear Ian,  I would like to thank you once again for a fantastic weekend.  Everything about it was five-star and I can’t wait for my next trip with you.  I found the trip to be so relaxing, not having to worry about anything, which really was another highlight of the workshop. The fantastic food and magnificent scenery also helped too. I would also like to thank you for helping me really see life, nature and travelling from another perspective and I believe I have found the missing piece! So now when I am out and about photographing, I will be able to experience these things on a much higher level and elevation. Take care and I will speak to you soon when I am booking my next workshop. Kind regards

Sam Brown

Another Fantastic Adventure Ian. Most enjoyable.

Greg and Valerie Earl

Dear Ian, you have brilliant knack of choosing the most wonderful spots for a photograph. Thanks for letting us all come and see the same spots too.

Margaret and Alf Zommers

Dear Ian, wish we had your direct “weather line” fantastic tour, could not have been better! Hope to be joining you again. Regards.

Suzanne and Bruce

Val and I would like to express our appreciation for all your assistance on the photographic workshop, we had a great time and learnt so much about landscape techniques, we look forward to joining you on many more! Kind regards.

  Greg and Valerie Earl.

Thank you for your careful planning, good humour and generosity, looking forward to 2013 when we travel with you to Yellowstone.

David and Charlotte Bradley

Hi Ian, Thank you for your friendship and help in guiding an older senior citizen successfully through such a marvellous part of the world. I could not have organised such a trip myself and found all the many scenic shots in my wildest dreams. I will be reliving the experience for a long time whilst I process all my images. I have already been asked to give a presentation to the club early October and I will encourage members to take one or more of your super excursions if they want to improve their photo skills.     My Best Regards,

Geoff Davies.

Dear Ian, Thanks for the email with all the details.  I had to hit the ground running when I arrived home as I had a busy week ahead of me - not finished yet!  Negative of all of this is that I have only now found time to check out all those photos I took.  When I downloaded my external hard drive to my iMac I found there were three thousand images!!!  Of course that number needs to be divided by five/three to account for all the bracketing done but even so that is a fair photographic effort for one of such advanced years. Although I said I would be happy with half a dozen good images, I think I have more than that so am very happy.I thoroughly enjoyed my time with you and am always delighted to meet people with the same enthusiasms as I have myself.  I learned a lot, mostly from you but also a little bit from the other participants. I am already working out when I can come with you again. Looking forward to the next workshop

Helen Gleeson

Hi Ian, Thank you for organising such a wonderful trip and it was such good value as well. It was thoughtfully planned and covered an interesting range of landscapes and environments.  I really enjoyed it and hopefully I have some good images. Thank you again and I hope you enjoy the other travel adventures you have planned during the rest of the year.   All the best.

Ann  Alcock

Hello Ian,  many thanks for all your help and inspiring us to renew our interest in photography. We appreciate the images you sent us too which are a lovely and special memory for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the workshop to Lord Howe Island with you.

Phillip  and Jillian Biencourt

 Hi Ian
.I loved the trip and enjoyed the photography so very much. You organized it all so well and everything flowed smoothly and easily. I now have thousands of photos to sort out and edit. I will let you know how I go. The teaching sessions from you and Peter were very worthwhile and I learnt a lot from you both.  The balance and difference between yours and Peter’s style of photography worked well.  I would love to do another trip with you any time.  Thanks again.

Pam Rixon

Thank you Ian for the wonderful trip, We had a lovely time, found we had lots to learn but it’s inspired us to do better. What a Lovely bunch of people, so friendly and ready to offer assistance.
We were so impressed we want to do more with you.
Please put us down for your Flinders island trip in March 2013 and the America’s South West trip in 2014.
Thanks for being a wonderful host, Regards

 Elaine & Craig

Hello Ian, The Three week tour of California was well organised, the highlight being Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is simply stunning – words and photographs can’t do it justice. We spent six days at Yosemite and could easily have spent more time there. Both you and Peter Walton did their best to ensure that your knowledge of photography and post production hints were freely passed on to the trip participants. I certainly learned quite a lot on the very enjoyable trip, which was planned so that there was plenty of time at each place that we visited. Keep up the good work!  Best wishes.

 Robert & Bee-Lee Fairweather

Hi Ian, thank you for all your help so far in improving our photography skills. In eighteen months we have come a long way. You have a skill in selecting the best locations and at the best time of the day despite the weather! We highly recommend your workshops and your tours to anyone who not only wants a great holiday but would also like to improve their photography. Thank you!

Alfred and Margaret Zommers

Hi Ian,    Just a quick note to say thanks for the opportunity to be part of the Advanced Creative Outdoor Photography course.  Your knowledge behind and the detail in the in the presentation of the course left nothing to be desired and has delivered so much for us to work with.   Best Regards

Kevin & Jan Baker

Hi Ian thank you so much for the workshop, it was a wonderful 7 days, I am not sure how much I learnt but was absolutely great. I still think those amazing compositional techniques continues to elude me but I am a very willing learner. I have attached a picture of a boat still getting a bit confused as I am new to this wonderful medium your comments would be greatly appreciated.

 Pauline Michelle

Hello Ian, thank you for taking the time to send your landscape presentation to me as I have been so unwell and missed about half of it. This is so appreciated. I cannot wait for the day when I am able to join you on another workshop. Thank you again and best regards.

Gary Down

Hi Ian,  I just wanted to express my sincere thank you for the wonderful Outdoor Photography course you have run at Southern Suburbs for the last 6 weeks.  It has been inspirational to listen, learn and of course enjoy your mouth watering images.  I’m sure all participants do appreciate the time, preparation, and effort in running such a program. How lucky are we!!!?? The dream sequence is firmly entrenched in my mind, and the Technical night I loved......now  to apply it all.  The aspects of hyperfocal distance, and how to ‘manage’ different colours was great     Best wishes

 Jane Barnes

Ian,   I have greatly enjoyed the photography course over the last 6 or 7 weeks. It certainly gave me something to look forward to in the middle of the week.  I have found myself looking at the world differently, previsualising where ever I go.  More significantly I have started looking at the light. Front light, side light, back light, flat light etc. In this regard I really enjoyed your book and the well written discussion regarding light and of course the photos.  I am very interested in joining your workshop in November 2012.  Can you please let me know the dates and I will arrange deposit etc.          Regards

Paul Spence

Hi Ian,   The course was great, alooot of information to take in and go over, Its hard to ask questions at the end due to it being quite late when finishing. Maybe run it over a weekend or two if your schedule permits.  You are very passionate in what you do and the dedication you give to the course, workshops, tours etc. Is fantastic.  The course is excellent value for money in what you provide with notes, your book and information through powerpoint.   Also your willingness to give some of your material away for further learning and understanding.  Also to show how many myths that are out there and to show the reason behind why some work and some dont.   With everyone thinking they are a photographer etc (do gooders, wankers and nerds) it hard to know what to believe.   I think it all comes down to practice and getting out there.  I hope to do one of your tours soon. Regards

 Danielle Le-Gassick

Hi Ian,Thank you for the contact list for the others on the workshop. Everyone was very grateful for all your support. I can’t believe it’s almost a week since we arrived home as I haven’t had a chance to do anything with my photos as yet due to babysitting grandkids, volunteer mentoring, book club last night, ESPS workshop etc Roger bought photo-matix for me so I am ready to go. We both loved the trip. It is such a beautiful island and the weather was certainly on our side so that we could take advantage of all the great places you took us to. The locals were so friendly and accommodating as well which gave the whole week a lovely relaxed homey feel. Thank you so much for showing me how to do the star trail, I’m sorry I wasn’t up to the 2nd night, but at least now I know I can go out and experiment with all the foregrounds etc. Your on location and workshop tips were also very much appreciated and I learnt a great deal. Now is the test to practice and make perfect.

Jenny Vass

Just a short message to thank you for judging the Tyrendarra Show as well as taking the time to give us your presentation on Landscapes - it was not only very informative, but it also brought four new members into our Camera Club.Once again, thanks and I hope we will stay in touch, and of course whenever you would like to include Portland in your itinerary, you know you are more than welcome to come to Bonnie View Holiday Farm. Regards
